Kellen and The First

Each day is quite the adventure with our little dare devil. I have a very sneaky feeling that this child will give me 10,000 heart attacks in the next five years alone. You can never toss him to high, push him to hard, spin him round and round to quick... you get the picture? He is already Mr. Independent wanting to do everything for himself, well everything except hold his own bottle. He feels quite confident he can swim on his own, walk on his own, he even tried to write his own blog. Where is my baby?

Kellen celebrated this past week by checking off a few firsts off his to do list. The first word came out and I swear if our friend Sandi was not hear to witness it I would take this to my grave. Kellen's first word was "CAT". Not Mama, or Dada, or even DOG... but CAT. He loves to say it over and over again, and once he starts we quickly look to see if Sierra or Giuseppe are lurking around. I must say that nine times out of ten they are strolling by. There has been the occasional time where he has called Skyler or Kiara CAT. But for the most part he is spot on. We have stepped up the practice of Mama and Dada. Paws crossed we make it into his top five.

Another exciting first is that Kellen can now pull himself into a sitting position from his tummy and pull himself up and stand while in his crib. Daddy will be dropping the bed to it's lowest and final resting place so that I can sleep with ease. Every sound I jump up and grab the monitor.

This next first we could have lived without for a very long time. Kellen got sick. There truly are no words to describe the heartache I have gone thourgh this past week. The fever's alone are enough to have given me my first grey hair. Burning up all the way to 103.8 one night. His soft skin like fire to the touch. One night he needed eye drops, nose drops, ear drops and tylenol. He screamed and howled and grabbed for my neck just wanting my comfort and love. I burst into tears and had to have Sandi and Chris do what I could not. Then afterwards I cuddled him close and dried his tears.

The past week we have gotten very little sleep. During the day he needs to be held and comforted most of the time. Once I have him down for his nap I quickly get to work as long as I can before I crash out on the couch and try to catch up with what was missed the night before. Daddy has been sleeping on the couch and Kellen in bed with me. The fever has been a constant with us for the past four days, his cough and runny nose are beyond horrific and he started throwing up and tugging on his ear after a severe coughing fit. Time to go back to the doctor. Today we found out he has an ear and upper respiratory infection. I was able to sweet talk his doctor to write a prescription for me as well. Kellen passed along his infection to me. I just want us all to be well and for him never, ever, ever to be sick again. Not to much to ask!
