Kellen Turns One

NO one really knows how fast time flies, more than a Mother.  One day we are rocking a sweet, soft, cuddly baby... and then the next we are chasing a chubby, sticky, cheeky turtle and pulling him out of the dogs water bowl and away from the light sockets, oh and away from the pots and pans.

Kellen turning the big one is so very bittersweet for many reasons. But mostly because we will never have this experience again. Your first year with a baby, as a new Mom, as a new family. It will never be the same again no matter how many other children you have.   Kellen woke up at 1 am on his birthday crying, and I grasped at the rare opportunity to rock him back to sleep and so I did for over an hour. Singing and hugging him, kisses his sweet chunky cheeks. Crying the whole time. When I finally placed him down in his crib, I felt better and ready to let go and embrace the very exciting and wonderful years to come.

Daddy and I had really big plans for Kellen's birthday, but our life has been so very Topsy turvy since March 12, and today it decided to take another spill.  Kiara could not walk again. Her head was down and tilted her mouth open and unable to shut. The tumor was back. We rushed her to the ER and of course the news was not good. The swelling had returned and we have to change our plans.

Now we are driving to Cincinnati to drop Kellen off and then driving directly to the University. What will happen from there is up in the air. I will keep you al posted. For now Kiara is doing a little better, we have increased her prednisone and she is also on a new medication as well. Paws crossed we can make it to the University in time.

The rest of Kellen's birthday was spent packing and trying to get ready for our drive. But we did take the time to go to My Gym and share yummy cupcakes with his friends.  Then after dinner we sang happy birthday and he blew out his first candle. Then we all ate cupcakes, Kiara had two!  The presents were small but special.... a new book CATS and a pair of swimming goggles with turtles peeking over the lenses. Wicked cute.  Then to end the night we had a glass of ice cold bubbly right at the exact time Kellen came screaming into our life, 8:26pm.  As special as we could make it under the circumstances.

Kellen is becoming so vocal and truly an amazing little guy. We are excited for everyone to see what a super sweet, funny, adorable, beautiful, perfect, and dare we say Money?  You damn right we do.
