Last week when we got home I realized that all the trips to see the specialists for Kiara, I had forgotten to take Kellen in for his one year check-up. Because we are still continuing on the delayed vaccinations Kellen only got one shot, his last prevnar. We are pushing the dreaded MMR till his second birthday. I cannot tell you how much relief this schedule has brought to us. Knowing that Kellen has a fever and very very fussy after the HIB vaccine allows us to prepare and keep an extra special eye on him. As flu season approaches Chris and I both will get our shots and because of the swine flu, we will also get Kellen a shot as well. Plus Kellen will be living in a bubble from October till March, just to be safe!
Our pediatrician Jackie told us that Kellen is perfect! He weighed in at 27 pounds 13 ounces, 28 3/4 and his head is off the charts again. He has been hitting all of his markers and is a healthy, happy, chunky, turtle. All the nurses came in to wish him happy birthday and to take turns squeezing his cheeks and tickle his feet. But then came the hard part, his one shot. This time was very different than all the others. This time Kellen knew this was pain with a capital P. He screamed, cried, and then bawled. I quickly pulled his soft body into my arms and rocked him and comforted him, kissing each tear away. Once he has his blue puppy and oui and hugs from me he calmed down to just sniffles. Next check-up is at 15 months!
