Buddha Bear

After we adopted Soleil Summer Sky from The Golden Retriever Rescue of South Florida we were truly humbled by the amazing work that this organization does every single day. They take in every single Golden no matter what the circumstance. They drive to Miami at three in the morning to pick up a pup who has been tied to a tree on the side of the highway, they take dogs from people who suddenly decide they cant keep them anymore and they buy puppies like Soleil off of Craigs List so they know the pups will have good homes. Chris and I wanted to do something to help and with money being extremely tight right now adopting another dog is just not an option. So we made the decision to be a foster family.

Buddha is a seven month old golden boy, he was pretty much an outside dog. The family that had him could no longer keep him, they had just sold 8 puppies to the rescue and then sold them Buddha. They still had at least four other dogs. Lisa called us last Saturday to ask us if we were ready for our first foster and within a few hours we were on our way to pick him up.

Buddha was so very timid and he did not want to even come in the house at first, we had to carry him in. But after a few hours he was nice and comfy chilling in the dog bed and snugging on the couch, that is of course if Soleil would leave him alone for ten seconds. By the end of the first day we were all madly in love with him and wanted to keep him. Lisa called it foster failure and she is the one that talked us down. Soleil & Buddha became very best friends. They slet in the same crate and played and played and played till they would both collapse exhausted. Kellen enjoyed the peace and quite that having a playmate for Soleil gave to him. We enjoyed the love & energy of having two pups in our house once again.

We were blessed with seven days with our Buddha Bear before we got the call that Lisa was very confident she had found him a truly wonderful forever home. I only cried a little as we watched him drive away, but Soleil was heartbroken. Now we wait for the next call to see who will be our next foster pup.
